Wolvey Village Profile

Wolvey is a popular village located on the Leicestershire/Warwickshire border and comprises the main village centred on the square and Wolvey Heath. Wolvey is exceptionally well located for access to the M69 via junction 1 and is within easy reach of Hinckley, Nuneaton, Coventry and Leicester. Wolvey village has a thriving community and there is a lot of information about local activities on the villages own website.

The village dates back to Saxon times and indeed the most important historic event occurred during the War of the Roses when Warwick The King Maker captured Edward IV on the Wolvey Heath. Historically knitting, weaving and milling were the most important trades in the village and at one time there were 27 windmills unfortunately none remain. There is a local history group.

There is a post office/general store, doctors surgery and three public houses in the village. The Wolvey (Old Cricket Field) Whetstone Reserve was purchased by Wolvey Parish Council in May 2003 and is managed as a wet land nature reserve

Wolvey Bowling Club. The Bowling Club is set immediately behind the village hall and boasts one of the best flat greens in the country. During the winter months there are skittle evenings two or three times a week.

There are fishing lakes close to the village.
